Pei, Cobb Freed & Partners is one of the most prestigious and widely recognised architecture studios in the world. It is based in New York and since its creation in 1955 has completed more than 200 large-size projects all over the world, working for public bodies, private developers and educational, cultural and religious institutions.
It is not easy to select the most important projects carried out by this New York studio. However, mention must be made of the John Hancock Tower in Boston, the Bank of China Tower (photograph) in Hong Kong and the extension and modernisation of the Louvre in Paris.
Pei Cobb Freed & Partners has received some of the most prestigious awards: the Chicago Architecture Award and the Lifetime Achievements Award from the New York Society of Architects. Despite the fact that the projects carried out by the firm are exceptionally varied and diverse in terms of the type of construction and environment, one central theme systematically appears in its buildings: the conception of architecture as the art of building places, art that mainly expresses concern for the quality of life and public space.
